Bug hunting

I went out for a walk at lunchtime today, enjoying the rare bit of sunshine.

I spent most of my time in an area about four metres long, creeping along with my camera, peering at the bugs which could be found skulking. I was rewarded with two scary looking insects feasting on another insect, some ladybird porn, some pregnant spiders and a few obviously very near sighted caterpillars.

Amusingly, twice while I was crouching down with my camera, people walking dogs came along: to give you an idea of what some people around here are like, they immediately turned around and walked the other way.

Either that or I actually look like some kind of lunatic. (Don't answer that.)

Munch.

Munch.

Taking a stroll.

Munch.

Dinner.

I'm really not sure what was going on here. And I'm not sure I want to know.

I do know that they were at it for a long time.

Enjoying a snack.

Chirp.

Knock knock.

Not sure what the predators were, but these two were feasting on what looked like a very mangled cranefly.

One was clearly dominant: the one on the right kept getting chased away.

He didn't seem happy about being excluded from the dinner table..

He went off to sulk.

Wait.. what's that up there? Is it that lunatic with the camera again?

Munch.

One very pregnant spider. Note she was missing a leg..

Another pregnant spider.

Chirp.

Just hanging out.

Watching and waiting.

The view.
