Here are just a few very old photos from a trip to Hardwick Hall. I really hope to visit this place again. It's impressive simply as a building, but far more so for its age and history, being the seat of power of Bess of Hardwick.
When it was built in the 16th century it was a sign of huge wealth and extravagance to have that much glass in a building. Visitors not impressed by that would find themselves ushered inside and follow a cavernous and continuous hallway that led up to Bess's chamber, a room that you could probably land a helicopter in if you took the roof off..
