A National Trust compilation post

Visitors to this blog will maybe have noticed that I'm quite a frequent visitor to National Trust properties. One reason for this is that I am lucky enough to have life membership (which was given as a present, along with English Heritage membership).

I make use of my membership as much as I can, and I think that - all things considered - the National Trust is an exceptional organisation. They do great work in caring for all kinds of places of historical and natural interest (the clue is in the name: they hold them in "trust" for the nation and its people).

I can honestly say that I've never had a bad experience at a National Trust venue (well, anything more serious than some scones that were not still warm from the oven!). Membership is a fantastic asset for anybody with any desire to not only have the opportunity for great days out, but to contribute towards protecting the heritage of the nation.

It would be great to see a greater diversity of people visiting NT properties, rather than just families and older people. The National Trust are there for everybody, and the diversity of their properties is amazing: ancient woodlands, Paul McCartney and John Lennon's childhood houses, castles with moats, workhouses, and mansions filled with art.

And cream teas. Don't forget the cream teas. For this, A la Ronde have made the best so far. (Though my favourite National Trust eats have been the Guinness cake at Hardwick, and the cheese scones at Standen. Fantastic.)
