Northern Monkey Brass Band

Northern Monkey Brass Band. They played two gigs in one evening last night in Askrigg: firstly, an impromptu jam session in the village hall for a packed house, and then up the hill to another full house at St Oswald's church, part of the Swaledale Festival.

They were excellent, and that's about all I can say about them. I like jazz, and this was simply great fun drum and brass jazz, which had the people in the village hall dancing even if the concertgoers in the church remained seated (there was at least some clapping and arm waving).

Sheku Kanneh-Mason & the Kanneh-Mason Trio

Sheku Kanneh-Mason and the Kanneh-Mason Trio, playing in the Swaledale Festival.

Sheku is the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2016. Apparently the tickets for this concert (with two of his siblings) in Aysgarth sold out within ten minutes of going on sale. Needless to say I felt quite lucky to be able to photograph this, and experience such musical excellence.

Sheku on the cello, his brother Braimah on the violin, and sister Isata on the piano.

Ridiculously talented.
