Philippa Mo's Shortwave Nights series, held at the Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey. A pretty unique series of musical performances by people at the very top of their games in an intimate setting with drinks (and pizza!) available. It was an absolute pleasure to be involved in the series, and get to meet some very interesting people and hear some fantastic music in a very unusual performance space, all down to the hard work of Philippa Mo in getting such a list of people to come and perform with her.
From a photographic point of view, these were extremely hard events to photograph: firstly, I needed to be discreet in such a small venue to avoid disturbing the audience, so I couldn't move around very much. This also meant that I was having to use my cameras in electronic shutter mode so they were silent. However, in this mode the images can have a banding effect from flickering lights, and nearly all the light sources in the venue flickered very badly, and if the flickering lights were turned off then it was almost dark, which throws up even more difficulties. Hopefully I managed to produce a decent overall set.
Looking forward to more performances soon, hopefully.
