Appleby Horse Fair 2019. Rather wet weather meant that the river Eden was too high and strong for horses to enter, so the traditional washing of the animals couldn't take place. Instead, people fluffed them up with sawdust to make them attractive for sale. There were some pretty animated sale negotiations taking place, drawing large crowds.
The Dufton road turned into a muddy race track for the horses and gigs, with some of the riders getting covered from head to toe in mud.
As ever, a really fun day with a good atmosphere, not dampened at all by the weather.
