Riviera: Bussana Vecchia

Bussana Vecchia in Liguria was abandoned in 1887 due to an earthquake that destroyed large parts of the village. In the 1940s a handful of southern Italians migrated to the north and settled in the ruined town, followed in the 1960s by a Sicilian painter named Vanni Giuffrè who established an artists' commune, which eventually attracted artists from all over the world.

The partially rebuilt town is today full of quirky little places, including a model train set that occupied several cellars.
